Class Details

The next session of Latin 1A runs from Sept. 2018 to Jan. 2019. It is an accredited live online class held through Skype at pre-scheduled times. The Carmenta Latin 1A class operates just like an in-person class, with teacher and students hearing and seeing each other in real time. Students enroll in either the morning or the evening section. The Morning Section is held M/W/F 11 AM - noon Eastern Time. The Evening Section is held M/W/F 8-9 PM Eastern Time. The class is open to all students ages 13 and up, both teenagers and adults. This Latin 1A class is the first class of the 8-semester accredited Carmenta Latin Course. All students are required to begin the course in Latin 1A and proceed through the course in order — students are not allowed to begin in Latin 1B or above. Students who would like to begin at a higher level have the option of taking the accredited Carmenta Course through one of our One-on-One Latin Instructors.

Each class session is 1 hour long if class enrollment is 5 students or more. If 3 or 4 students are enrolled in a class, then class sessions are 45 minutes long; if there are 1 or 2 students, then they are 30 minutes long.

Students who enroll in Latin 1A need to purchase the two required textbooks: Wheelock's Latin and Workbook for Wheelock's Latin. Click Here to purchase textbooks. Students are expected to have both textbooks by the first day of class.

"This class helps me achieve my educational goals because it is a fast-paced course, so it teaches me how to have multiple activities going on at once, because at the same time I have my classes at my high school. This also helps me with my language class at school since I gain speaking and writing skills here...My favorite part about the class is the friendly environment. Magistra Natasha creates a very helpful, learning environment where everyone can learn and is not afraid to ask questions. Overall, I am very pleased with my first experience learning Latin here, and a huge part of that was because of Magistra Natasha."

Each class period feels like a successful use of time! Dr. P. has been incredibly patient with us, yet helped to push us deeper into the language. After each class, I leave feeling that we have had a successful hour studying and practicing the language. Even though we are only beginners, we are truly grasping the language already and laying a wonderful foundation for future studies.

Dr. P. has high expectations but understands that we are only just beginning our journey. He is very well educated and loves to discuss all aspects of the language, the history of the language, the culture, and anything else that comes up in relation to words or passages we study. Furthermore he ties Latin in with modern languages, which most of us have studied. Finally, his own depth and understanding of the language is incredible."
